NOT IN THIS LIFETIME – MADEWORN X GUNS N’ ROSES
Welcome to the Sunset Strip of our adolescent dreaming, rock’n’roll in its rawest form, the air thick with cigarette haze, the floor sticky with cheap booze, the toilet dank and rife with graffiti. A surly bartender lords over the worn bar, it’s red vinyl stools torn and taped and torn again, a stripper wraps long legs around silver pole, and beyond – a stage set with vintage gear, Guns N’ Roses’ greatest videos hits roaring to life on a giant screen…
Built to kick off a series of secret shows in preparation for Guns N’ Roses first tour in over 20 years- our MadeWorn experiential pop-up space was constructed inside the iconic Tower Records building on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Overseen by MadeWorn founder Blaine Halvorson, the space was built in just 3 days, and offered “day of” ticket sales to 200 lucky fans to GNRs’ surprise show at the legendary Troubadour.
If you missed it – here’s a glimpse into the magic…
…A meticulously thought-out replication of a classic Sunset Strip rock’n’roll club circa the mid-1980s, with every dirty ashtray and forgotten whisky glass is placed with a keen sense for pop cultural nostalgia.
Fans entered through a hall plastered in smoke-stained concert flyers, gently pushed open the dust covered doors… and were immediately blasted back into the golden age of L.A. metal, when the hair was big and the pants were tight…to a time when, in the immortal words of Axl Rose, ‘the grass was green and the girls were pretty.’
Amid the battered unplastered wallboards, ornate and gilded frames showcased memorabilia from the band’s incredible career; Slash’s hat, Axl’s high tops, countless Gold and Platinum albums glowing behind glass. The whole scene vibrated with teeth-on-edge late night adrenaline, the energy of youth and music and a time where life was wound tight, when emotion ran deep and high.
